Intent

We aim to equip our pupils with a broad knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care sectors. It provides a clear grounding for them if they later choose to enter into related profession or further training in Health and Social Care.

This course introduces pupils to the Health and Social care sector. It give them a foundation for working in a health and social care or related areas. It introduces them to many of the skills used by health care practitioners in carrying out their jobs on a daily basis. The course gives pupils the opportunity to acquire technical knowledge and skills through a vocational contexts

 

Curriculum Content

 

We offer the Pearson’s [Edexcel] BTEC Tech Award level 2 in Health and Social Care.

The course comprises of 3 components:

​Component 1: Human Lifespan Development. Controlled assessment

This is about human growth and development across all life stages, how humans grow and develop from infancy to old age, different factors affecting growth and development, different types of life events such as  starting school, going to university, getting married, death/bereavement etc. How humans cope with these different life events.

 

Component 2: Health and Social Care Services and Values. Controlled assessment

This is about health and social care services, different types of health care services, different barriers that can prevent access to services. Understanding the different care values are also part of the course.

 

Component 3: Health and Wellbeing - Exam unit

This is about factors affecting health and wellbeing, physiological indicators and lifestyle indicators to health and wellbeing. How to develop health and wellbeing improvement plans and any obstacles to implementing health plans

 

The department also offers in year 12 and 13 Health and Social Care level 3 extended certificate from the exam board OC
