Shelterbox Appeal

EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR JAPAN: Over the weekend, we all saw the devastating impact that the earthquake and tsunami have had upon the inhabitants of Japan. Towns and villages have been washed away, tens of thousands of people have gone missing and many are homeless. The Japanese also face the likelihood of yet another earthquake and hazards from damaged nuclear facilities.
One of the teams from the UK who were on the ground in Japan within 24 hours are from Shelterbox. This is a UK charity who provide instant emergency provisions for those in need. This includes tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, tools and water purification – essentially immediate provisions to ensure life is maintained.
Each of these boxes provides enough equipment for 10 people and enables them to start dealing with the aftermath. The cost of each of these boxes is £490 and includes not only the cost of the contents, but the transport and delivery to some of these inaccessible locations as well as the deployment of necessary staff.
Pupils will have seen through their assemblies or in tutor groups a presentation showing in detail the impact and the support that this charity gives in times of crisis. There is also much more information available on the organisation’s website: www.shelterbox.org
Whatever you are able to donate would help this cause and, with just £1 donated from every pupil, we would help save the lives of over 20 people and give them accommodation too. For many of you however, the scale of this tragedy may encourage you to donate significantly more. If you wish to do this, please forward a cheque with payments written to ‘Shelterbox Trust’ and not the school. We will forward these and all cash on behalf of the school. Please put all donations into an envelope and forward to your tutor by Friday 25th March.
